PROF. K.I.T. ENIOLA

The PIONEER VICE CHANCELLOR, KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY, KABBA

Professor K.I.T. Eniola began his formal education in 1973 at AWA Nursery School, Dan-Tukur Road, Kaduna, Kaduna State. He continued at Command Children School, Dan-Tukur Road, Kaduna, in 1975. For his secondary education, he was admitted to Titcombe College, Egbe (in the present-day Kogi State), in 1980. In 1985, he pursued Advanced Level studies at the School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin (now Kwara State Polytechnic). He proceeded to the University of Ilorin in 1988 to study Microbiology, where he later earned a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Environmental Microbiology.

Prof. Eniola began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Ilorin in 1998. In 2008, Prof. Eniola joined Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State, where he rose to the rank of Professor of Environmental and Public Health Microbiology in 2013.

Over the years, he has held several key positions, including Academic Level Adviser, Time Table Officer, Examination Officer, SIWES Coordinator, Head of Department, Director of Academic Planning, Director of Research Planning, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, just to mention but a few. He also chaired several committees, such as the University Ceremonies Committee, Sports Committee, Research Committee, Accreditation Committee, and Post-COVID-19 Committee, among others. Notably, he served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of JABU from April to September 2022. He served as a member of the ASUU-Unilorin Coordinating Committee, representing the university as a delegate at the ASUU National Delegate Conference in 2000. He displayed exceptional qualities in all the positions he has occupied.

Prof. Eniola was the President of the Nigeria Society of Microbiology (NSM) from 2014 to 2018, during which he achieved notable milestones. He is a Fellow of NSM and a member of numerous learned societies. Between 2018 and 2023, he served as the Nigeria Country Ambassador for the American Society of Microbiologists (ASM), a role that earned him significant recognition both nationally and internationally.

Passionate about using technology to enhance learning, Prof. Eniola is a strong advocate of the application of microbial technology to address real-world problems. He coined the term MMM (Money-Making Microbiology), also known as Entrepreneurial Microbiology, which he has presented at conferences and other speaking engagements across institutions in Nigeria.

Prof. Eniola has published extensively in local and international journals and has participated in conferences, workshops, and training programs in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries.

In 2023, he was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Kabba. As the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, he has overseen the successful enrollment and completion of the 100-level academic year for the university's first cohort of 1,000 students between January and October 2024. Under his leadership and within a short period of time, the university has recorded remarkable achievements, including the establishment of KOSUKAB Ventures and KOSUKAB Consults, aimed at generating internal revenue for the institution.
